This recipe will be the easiest thing you have ever made! The hardest part is the peeling but there are some awesome peelers that make it quick like this one. The secret to great homemade apple sauce is a mix of different types of baking apples. I use a blend of McIntosh, Jonathan, Gala, and Granny Smith apples. Just make sure the apples you choose are listed as a baking apple. Here’s a recipe for all natural, no sugar added, chunky apple sauce!
1. Peel all the apples
2. Cut the apples into thin slices and put into a large pot over medium heat
3. Cook until apples are soft with occasionally stirring (20 minutes)
4. Add cinnamon to taste!
If you like smooth sauce, cook a bit longer to break down the apple pieces and use a hand purée blender to get rid of any small chunks. My favorite way to eat this is warmed on top of vanilla halo top ice cream with my homemade no sugar caramel sauce! You can find the sauce recipe in the salted chocolate caramel blondie bar recipe.
